This video shows Skyler Baird, the founder of Boosted Safe, explaining why he built a car safe that looks like a booster seat.
His father ran a video production business and had his car broken into multiple times, losing lighting equipment, a checkbook and a credit card. Skyler took over his own video work at 19 and chained a safe inside his trunk to protect his laptop and hard drives. It was clunky, and people could see him use it. Then he was given a booster seat for his son, with connection points a fixed distance apart, and that became the idea.
On film he latches the safe to the LATCH anchors (called ISOFIX outside the US), shows the release points inside the safe, and cuts a cable with wire cutters. Firearms are stored unloaded. With enough time and tools nothing is secure. The job is to raise the time and the tool count. The written version is the founder story.

0:00 [...] That was really easy. That's why I created this. The Boosted Safe is a car safe that disguises as a booster seat. It can be opened with a fingerprint, a code, a key, and has a USB battery backup. You can store your laptop, personal protection, passports, IDs, and the best part is that it securely latches in the back seat [...] using these attachment points. [...] Securely latch in. [...] You can only remove the safe by opening the safe and grabbing these release points found inside. [...]
1:06 The competition uses something like this cable right here. So this cable can easily be cut through by a simple pair of wire cutters. It's like there's no security in that. Someone can steal all your stuff with just this. Let me just show you how easy it is to break into a vehicle. It's that simple. Someone comes up to a car, grabs your backpack and is done.
1:30 My father was an entrepreneur. He had his own video production business and quickly I became part of that. I was the video editor. He was the videographer and we worked together hand in hand. I went on shoots with him and we filmed all sorts of things, from sporting events to infomercials, but it came with highs and lows. So entrepreneurship and owning your own business, it's kind of feast or famine sometimes. You have shoots. You can go film the Olympics and be well off, but then there's a couple of months and you're eating expired bread and spaghetti for every meal.
2:04 It was this constant struggle of keeping our stuff safe. He had his car broken into multiple times, had lighting equipment stolen, had a checkbook stolen, had a credit card stolen. And that was the difference between having Christmas and not having Christmas. And so even something as simple as losing a credit card or a debit card or a checkbook can have drastic effects on people. And that really stuck with me into my own journey.
2:29 My father passed away when I was 19, and now I'm kind of on my own to run my own video production business. And I've got my laptop. I've got my hard drives. And so that weight of, is this footage going to get stolen when I have to leave my bag in the car to go take a test, was heavy. And that's when I decided to put a safe into the trunk of my vehicle, and I chained it in there so that nobody could steal it. But it was clunky. It was ineffective, and people could see when I got out of my car and put something valuable in there.
3:07 And a couple of years later I had my son, and I was given this booster seat that had these ISOFIX connection points. They were a fixed distance apart. And that's when it clicked. That's when the idea of the Boosted Safe was born. And I immediately prototyped. I immediately started building this product. A few years later I had an incident where my life and my son's life was actually threatened. And I knew that I needed to bring this product to market so that more people could have a safe in their vehicle. [...]
3:49 [...] The average everyday person with their cameras and their laptops also use the Boosted Safe. We are currently in the largest online retailer that specializes in camera equipment, video production equipment. It's selling really well. They put in new orders almost every single week. And it's also a growing channel.
4:11 The next phase is we've got some new products on the way. One of our products is the Boosted Safe Mini. This is actually going to be certified as a booster seat. This is for extra disguise. It's for families that actually need the booster seat functionality. When you're traveling, this is going to be able to go [inaudible] and travel with you. This is going to revolutionize car security. I'm super excited. I love the product. I think you're going to love it. [...] This product is genius.
4:52 [...] And as we continue to build on our [...] with more products that are coming down the pipeline, this company is going to continue its exponential growth. So thank you so much. Again, I'm Skyler, Boosted Safe. Love you. Goodbye.
