Car Safe Facts and Specs

Updated October 14, 2026.

Boosted Safe is a steel car safe that clips to your car's LATCH anchors (ISOFIX outside the US), the steel bars welded to the car's body to hold a child seat.

Quick facts

  • Six safes in three families: Boosted Safe, Mini and Golden Gate. Each comes as an Elite (fingerprint) or a Basic (combination and key).
  • Attaches to the rear-seat LATCH lower anchors. No tools. No drilling. No change to the car.
  • The release is inside the safe. It comes off the anchors only after it has been opened.
  • Steel: 16-gauge on the Boosted Safe and the Mini, 12-gauge on the Golden Gate.
  • The Mini Elite and Mini Basic are certified booster seats (FMVSS 213) with a steel safe inside.

  • Prices start at $219 (Mini Basic). The Golden Gate Elite is $499.
  • Patented.

What it is

What is a car safe?

A car safe is a locking steel box that stays in a vehicle, so valuables are not left loose in the cabin. Most car safes are held in place by a steel cable or by a bracket made for one vehicle. Boosted Safe is held by the vehicle's child-seat anchors.

What is Boosted Safe?

A steel safe that sits on the back seat, clips to the LATCH lower anchors, and hides under a quilted cover so it looks like a child's booster seat. It is a theft safe.

How is it different from a lockbox on a cable?

A cable lockbox is fixed by a cable looped around part of the car. Boosted Safe connects straight to the lower anchors, and the releases sit inside the locked safe. See the pull test.

How it mounts

How does Boosted Safe attach to a car?

Two steel latches clip onto the two lower anchor bars in the crease of the back seat. Push the safe back until you hear two clicks, one for each side, then give it a hard tug to check it holds.

Does it need tools or drilling?

No. No tools, no drilling, nothing to install in the car.

Can it be unclipped while it is locked?

The release is inside the safe, so it comes off the anchors only after it has been opened. No safe is theft-proof: with enough time and tools nothing is secure. The job is to raise the time and the tool count.

What if the anchors sit deep in the seat?

The latches switch from a short to a long position for seats where the anchors sit deeper. See the setup guide.

Which vehicles does it fit?

US passenger vehicles from model year 2003, which federal standard FMVSS 225 requires to have lower anchors. Some trucks over 8,500 lb GVWR and vehicles with no rear seat are exceptions. Check your vehicle, or read how LATCH anchors work.

What if my car has no LATCH anchors?

A Universal Anchor Adapter is available for vehicles or seats without anchors. The included security cable is a second tether, or the option where there are no anchors.

Does it go in the front seat?

No. It is designed for rear-seat installation on the rear LATCH anchors.

Locks

How does the Elite open?

Fingerprint, keypad or key. It runs on 4 AA batteries. The code and the key are the backups.

How does the Basic open?

A combination dial or the key. No batteries.

Is the USB-C port a way to unlock it?

No. USB-C is emergency power for the electronic lock, not a way in on its own.

What fits inside

Will a laptop fit?

The Boosted Safe Elite fits a 16-inch MacBook Pro. For anything else, compare the inside dimensions above with the item.

What does not fit?

Rifles, shotguns, tripods, and anything longer than 15 inches will not fit the Elite.

Can I keep a firearm in it?

The Golden Gate Elite is the one we recommend for firearms. Firearms are stored unloaded. Storage and transport laws vary by state: check yours.

Certifications

Is the Mini a certified booster seat?

Yes. The Mini Elite and Mini Basic are certified booster seats under FMVSS 213, the federal standard for child restraint systems (49 CFR 571.213), with a 16-gauge steel safe inside.

Is the full-size Boosted Safe a booster seat?

No. The Boosted Safe and Golden Gate are vehicle safes with a booster-seat-style cover. They are not child booster seats, car seats or child restraints. Never seat a child on one.

Which Boosted Safe is California DOJ certified?

The Golden Gate Elite is a California DOJ certified firearm safety device. The Golden Gate Basic, the Boosted Safe and the Mini are not. California keeps the list at the DOJ certified firearm safety device search.

Is it patented?

Yes. The anchor mount is patented. About the patent.

What Boosted Safe is not

  • Not theft-proof. No safe is. With enough time and tools nothing is secure.
  • Not fireproof or waterproof.
  • Not a child seat, unless it is a Mini.

Warranty and guarantee

What is the warranty?

A limited lifetime warranty: defects in materials or workmanship under normal use are covered for as long as you own the safe. On a pre-order, coverage starts when it is delivered. New and refurbished units carry the same warranty unless the product page says otherwise. Full warranty terms.

What is the break-in replacement?

If a thief damages your safe or beats it, Boosted Safe sends a new one free. It replaces the safe, not what was inside it or the car.

Can I return it?

Yes, within 30 days of delivery. The conditions are in the refund policy.
