We can’t answer for your department. Here’s what it is: a locked steel container that latches to the vehicle’s child-seat anchors, with the release inside the safe. Show your written policy to your supervisor or armorer. This is general information, not legal advice.

Most passenger vehicles from the 2003 model year on have the anchors in the back seat. Heavy-duty pickups over 8,500 lb and regular cabs may not. Check yours in a minute.
The low-battery indicator gives you advance warning, and the backup key opens the safe even with a dead battery. Keep the key somewhere secure and separate from the vehicle.
It is latched to steel anchors welded to the car’s body, and the release is inside the safe. To take it out, someone has to open it first. With enough time and enough tools nothing is secure. Our job is to make a smash-and-grab need far more of both than a thief brings to a parking lot.
