Boosted Safe Elite Test Video: Setup, Tools and Fit Check

This video shows the Boosted Safe Elite in a setup race, a five-minute round with hand tools and hammers, and a fit check, all on a mock car seat.

It is the longer cut of the Elite round from our car safe pull test. The Elite clips to LATCH anchors (called ISOFIX outside the US). It did not come off the anchors, and it stayed shut through hand tools and hammers for the full five minutes. The testers damaged it, and the film says so.

Setup ran past the five-minute target on this older test unit, with a lockout along the way. Newer versions have the batteries pre-installed. In the fit check it holds three handguns, then a laptop, a phone and a battery. Firearms are stored unloaded.

With enough time and tools nothing is secure. The job is to raise the time and the tool count.

0:00 So we've got the Boosted Safe Elite here. This is our flagship product. It's got the biometric fingerprint or combination or key. Similar to the Basic model, where it attaches into the seats. We will also be testing the Golden Gate version today, which is the same safe, just twice as... I don't know if it's twice as thick, but it's about twice as heavy, so it's a lot thicker. Set it up, get it attached, and first one to have a new code with it attached to the seat wins. On your marks, get set, go. Three seconds in.

0:46 A couple hands with the plastic, there you go. It doesn't close easy, it's not the right way. Need to [inaudible] the foam to throw it out of the way. You can throw it out of the way, it's fine. Two minutes and 30 seconds in. Keep the cover on this [inaudible].

3:43 Oh no, got the emergency lockout noise. I think Austin's locked out for five minutes. This is your time to shine here, Lance. You can just lock in. Austin's on lockout mode. I might try to do it in the batteries and do it again, I would say. Is that cheating? I think it cheated. All right, I think I got it again. There it is, nice. Five minutes and 30 seconds.

6:06 All right, so we've got both safes attached securely to the chairs. We are now going to give them 30 seconds to use their own manpower to get it out. If they can't do it in 30 seconds they can continue to try to use their own manpower to remove the safe, or they can move on to any one of our power tools. Whoever uses the weakest tool, power tools or regular hand tools, whoever uses the weakest tool wins. But you've got five minutes. So, best thing to do would be to get it out with your manpower in five minutes, but if you don't think you can do that, then whatever the weakest tool you can use is the winner. Five, four, three, two, one, go.

6:54 So far a little bit stronger than the cable ties. Do it, bend it away. It's been 45 seconds. You're welcome to move on to power tools or hand tools or whatever you want. Or if you want to keep trying with your body you can. Big screwdriver, don't look for it. The magnets, he's trying the magnets. We've got the wire cutters and the magnets. Magnets aren't working. Next up he's going for the hammer. The screwdriver is missing in action. So hot out, so hot out here. We are two minutes in.

8:58 He has some foam. He extracted the foam. He's a foam extractor. This is exciting. This is fun. This is good stuff. I like this. I like seeing the different methods of operation here. We're okay here. Lance is making some headway over here. Three minutes, 30 seconds. If Lance is successful with his current tool. Let me try wrapping the foam around it. Hammer. Five, four, three, two, one.

11:43 Hammers down. I'm really impressed with how far you got in with those. That was pretty good. Good news, contents safe. Police are on their way. They weren't able to get in. Bad news is that these are messed up.

11:55 Actually, really cool thing that just happened. For the first time somebody messaged me, their car got broken into. And they said that there were eight people in their neighborhood that had their cars smashed in and their windows smashed in. And he had firearm optics and binoculars and things like that inside his safe. But all they got out of his car was a roll of quarters. So these guys, they were smash and grab. They went through all his papers. They went through stuff. They grabbed what they could and left. The seat cover was removed, so it was clear that they actually looked in there and tried. But they weren't able. They didn't stick around long enough to try any of this. And they weren't successful. That's great news. He was stoked. He's telling all of his friends about it.

12:37 And you can see that even with a lot of tools, someone has to be pretty determined and have a lot of time on their hands. And we're in the open, which is probably one of the easiest, most leveraged ways that you could get around this. If you're in a little car and trying to do stuff, that's obviously much more difficult.

12:56 [...] I think we could probably fit all of the other safes that we've tried today inside of this safe. So that's pretty cool. So we are able to fit two handguns in there. Let's see if we can fit the SBR. And a handgun. And we fit all of the handguns in there. We might have to arrange them properly, but I think we can. Yep, we could. So we could fit all three handguns in the Elite. That's pretty sweet. First test, we're going to see if we can fit the laptop in. We've got a laptop. We've got a phone. Could it also do the battery? I don't think so. And we've got a battery, making it all fit. Lots of electronics, lots of storage space. That's the Boosted Safe Elite.

14:04 [inaudible] in five minutes, 30 seconds. So technically didn't meet our threshold of the five-minute cutoff. I would say I didn't know what direction the batteries went first. I mean, a little startle, but just try it in a few seconds. Full disclosure, our newest versions... this is the previous one. Our newest versions have the batteries pre-installed. So we'll take off a minute for that one. I about had the code learned. I just didn't read the instructions all the way through and get the fact that you have to push the learn button again after you add in your code. Other than that, pretty straightforward, I thought. So you got to hit your learn button, enter your four to six digit code, hit the learn button again. That is a common frustration. I like the way it's hooked to the seat. Honestly, I don't really see any bad right now. I like the way the code is. I like the key.
