Massachusetts law says any firearm that isn’t under your control has to be secured in a locked container. That includes the one you leave in the car. The Golden Gate Elite is a 12-gauge steel car gun safe that clicks into the child-seat anchors in your back seat, no drilling. Pistol in, unloaded. Cover down, and it looks like a booster seat.
You can’t carry everywhere. So the gun waits in the car.
Plenty of places in Massachusetts say no to the gun, and plenty of parking is on the street. Walk away from the car and the gun is on its own. In Massachusetts, it has to be locked up.
- The glove box. It’s where everyone keeps a gun, so it’s where thieves look.
- The console. One in four gun owners who leave a gun in the car keep it there. Thieves know that too. (Injury Epidemiology, 2026 survey of 1,856 gun owners)
- Under the seat. The first place anyone looks.
- A lock box on a cable.Bolt cutters take about four seconds, and the box leaves with them.
How bad is it in Massachusetts?

is closer to the real number. Only about 1 in 4 thefts is ever reported.

California DOJ certified
On California’s certified list. Look it up yourself.
California keeps a public roster of firearm safety devices certified for sale there. The Golden Gate Elite is on it, listed as the Boosted Safe LLC “Golden Gate” lock box.
You’re in Massachusetts, so why does California’s list matter? Because you can check it in ten seconds, and it shows this is a real gun safe, not a lockbox with a sticker.
This is California’s list. It isn’t a certification in Massachusetts or any other state. The listing covers the Golden Gate Elite only. The Golden Gate Basic has not been tested yet.
Your car has steel anchors. We lock a safe to them.
You might not know they’re there. Every passenger vehicle sold in the US since the 2003 model year has them, by federal standard FMVSS 225. A child seat clicks into them. So does a Boosted Safe.
- Locked to the car.Two steel latches grab the same bars that hold a child seat in a crash. The release is inside the safe.
- Looks like a booster seat.Nobody breaks a window for a booster seat.
- Opens in a second.Fingerprint first. Keypad and key behind it.
Why it's a Boosted Safe
Steel. Fingerprint. Anchors.

Does a Boosted Safe make me legal under c.140 s.131L?
We can’t promise that, and no box can. The law says any firearm that isn’t under your control has to be secured in a locked container. Read it and decide how you’ll use the safe. This is a plain-English summary, not legal advice. Laws change. Check Massachusetts’s current law before you rely on it.
Does a locked car count as a locked container?
That’s a question for the law and your lawyer, not a safe company. What we can tell you: a car window is one rock away, and the Golden Gate Elite is 12-gauge steel latched to the car.
Is it a real gun safe?
Yes. The Golden Gate Elite is 12-gauge steel, and the California DOJ lists it as a certified firearm safety device. That’s California’s list, not a Massachusetts certification, but you can check it yourself in ten seconds.
Is the Golden Gate Basic certified too?
Not yet. It hasn’t been tested. For firearms, get the Golden Gate Elite.
Can I store a loaded firearm in it?
No. Firearms go in unloaded.
What about driving to another state?
Federal law (18 U.S.C. 926A) covers travel between two places where you can lawfully have the gun: unloaded and out of reach, in the trunk, or in a locked container if there’s no trunk. States apply it differently. See the rules state by state.
When does the Golden Gate Elite ship?
It’s a pre-order that ships in November, and the pre-order price is $35 off.
Is there a deal if I buy more than one?
Yes. Buy 2 to 9 safes and every safe in the order is 25% off. Buy 10 or more and every one is 30% off. Mix any models, Golden Gate included. Refurbished safes don’t count, and the deal doesn’t stack with other codes.
Will it fit my car?
Most passenger vehicles from the 2003 model year on have the anchors. Check yours in a minute.
What if I don’t like it?
Put it in your car and live with it. If it isn’t for you, send it back inside 30 days for a refund. Defects are covered for as long as you own it.
Not on you? Locked in steel.
The Golden Gate Elite. 12-gauge steel, clicked into your back seat in under a minute. Two cars? Buy two safes and both are 25% off.
