What Florida law says about the gun in your car.
The short version, for adults. Each line links to the statute. One catch: school districts can opt out of the exception that lets you keep a gun in your car in a school parking lot (s. 790.115). - “Securely encased” is enough.A handgun in a private vehicle has to be “securely encased” or not readily accessible. A glove box, a holster, a gun case or a closed box with a lid all count (s. 790.25, 790.001).
- No lock law for a parked car.We couldn’t find one for adults. Locking it up is your call.
- Kids change the rules.If a loaded firearm is somewhere a child under 16 could get it, Florida wants it locked (s. 790.174).
- Work and store parking lots.Employers generally can’t stop you keeping a legal firearm locked in your own car in their lot, with exceptions like schools (s. 790.251).

Is a glove box legal for a gun in Florida?

Do I need a permit to carry in my car?
Is it a real gun safe?
Yes. The Golden Gate Elite is 12-gauge steel, and the California DOJ lists it as a certified firearm safety device. Florida doesn’t keep a list like that, so California’s is the one to check.
Can I store a loaded firearm in it?
No. Firearms go in unloaded.
Will it fit my car?
Most passenger vehicles from the 2003 model year on have the anchors. Check yours in a minute.

Can a thief just take the whole safe?
It’s latched to steel anchors welded to the car’s body, and the release is inside the safe. To take it out, someone has to open it first. With enough time and enough tools nothing is secure. Our job is to make a smash-and-grab take far more of both than a thief brings to a parking lot.
