Sources and method
Sources: FBI Crime Data Explorer, theft from motor vehicle, 2025, as reported by participating police agencies (coverage shown per state). Dots are placed on each state’s population centers in proportion to its reported total; they are not incident locations. Reporting rate: Bureau of Justice Statistics, Criminal Victimization, 2024 (NCJ 310547), Table 4: 25.4% of “other theft” victimizations were reported to police. That category is broader than thefts from vehicles, so the second number is an estimate.
The bad news
You’re one of those dots. You just don’t know which day.
A smash-and-grab takes under a minute. The thief doesn’t know what’s in your bag, so they break the window to find out. The glass, the deductible and the afternoon are on you.
- Under the seat. The first place anyone checks.
- The glovebox or console. The second place. A plastic latch is not a lock.
- A jacket thrown over it.A lump under a jacket is a gift with the wrapping half off.
- The trunk.Fine, unless someone watched you put it there.
car break-ins in the US since midnight (estimated)
One every 11 seconds. Police hear about one in four.
The clock is counting down to the next one, somewhere in the US. Most take under a minute: window, glovebox, console, under the seat, gone.
The math: police reported 698,347 thefts from vehicles to the FBI in 2025 (one every 45 seconds). The Bureau of Justice Statistics finds only 25.4% of thefts are ever reported to police. 698,347 ÷ 0.254 ≈ 2.7 million a year, or one every 11 seconds. It’s an estimate: the BJS figure covers all household theft, not only cars. Sources: FBI Crime Data Explorer, NIBRS theft from motor vehicle, 2025; BJS, Criminal Victimization, 2024 (NCJ 310547), Table 4.
The fix
Your car has steel anchors. We lock a safe to them.
You might not know they’re there. Every passenger vehicle sold in the US since the 2003 model year has them, by federal standard FMVSS 225. A child seat clicks into them. So does a Boosted Safe.
- Locked to the car.Two steel latches grab the same bars that hold a child seat in a crash. The release is inside the safe.
- Looks like a booster seat.Nobody breaks a window for a booster seat.
- Opens with your finger.Touch the reader and the lid lifts. A keypad code and a backup key work too.
Why it's a Boosted Safe
Steel. Fingerprint. Anchors.

Straight answers.
Can’t a thief just take the whole safe?
It is latched to steel anchors welded to the car’s body, and the release is inside the safe. To take it out, someone has to open it first. With enough time and enough tools nothing is secure. Our job is to make a smash-and-grab need far more of both than a thief brings to a parking lot.
Won’t a thief still break my window?
Maybe. A safe doesn’t stop a rock. What it does is turn a sixty-second payday into a broken window and nothing to show for it.
What if someone does break into it?
Then we replace it, free. That’s the break-in guarantee. Power tools and a lot of time beat every safe ever made, which is why we cover it instead of pretending.
Where do the break-in numbers come from?
The FBI’s Crime Data Explorer: thefts from motor vehicles reported to police in 2025, state by state. The Bureau of Justice Statistics finds only about 1 in 4 thefts is ever reported (25.4%), so the bigger number is our estimate of the real total. That reporting figure covers all household theft, not only cars, so treat it as an estimate. The map’s dots show each state’s total spread across its population centers; they are not incident locations. Open “Sources and method” under the map for the full notes.
What fits inside?
The inside is 15.1 × 13.6 × 4.25 inches. A 16-inch laptop fits, and so do a wallet, phone, passports, cash, a tablet and a small purse or clutch. A big tote bag doesn’t. Every Elite comes with a Faraday bag that fits a 16-inch laptop, an iPad or a phone.
Which cars does it fit?
US passenger vehicles from model year 2003 have lower anchors in the back seat (LATCH in the US, ISOFIX everywhere else). Heavy-duty pickups over 8,500 lb and regular cabs may not: check yours in a minute. The safe clips to the anchors in under a minute, no tools. For an older vehicle, or a spot without anchors, the Universal Anchor Adapter (coming soon) adds the same latch points.
Do I need tools or have to drill anything?
No tools, no drilling. It clicks into the same anchors a child seat uses, in under 60 seconds. It moves to your next car the same way: yours, your partner’s, a rental.
Can I keep a firearm in it?
Yes, unloaded. For firearms we recommend the Golden Gate Elite: thicker 12-gauge steel, and it’s the only Boosted Safe on the California DOJ’s list of certified firearm safety devices. Gun laws for cars vary by state and city, so check yours. See the states with car gun laws.
Is there a deal if I buy more than one?
Yes. Buy one, get one half off: buy 2 to 9 safes and every one is 25% off; buy 10 or more and every one is 30% off. All six safes count together, mixed or matched: Elite, Basic, Mini Elite, Mini Basic, Golden Gate Elite and Golden Gate Basic. One for your car and one for your partner’s both count. Refurbished safes don’t count, and the deal doesn’t stack with other codes.
Is it fireproof or waterproof?
No, and we won’t pretend. It’s a theft safe. Don’t leave batteries or anything heat-sensitive in a closed car in August, safe or no safe.
What if I don’t like it?
Put it in your car and live with it. If it isn’t for you, send it back inside 30 days for a refund. Defects are covered for as long as you own it.
Don’t be the next dot.
The Boosted Safe Elite. Steel, locked to your back seat in under a minute, opens with your finger, and looks like a booster seat. Two cars? Buy two and both are 25% off.
