The idea sounds like a contradiction: a booster seat that is also a gun safe. But that is exactly what the BoostedSafe Mini is, a backless belt-positioning booster seat with a hidden, locked compartment built in. It is the only product we make where a child can actually sit, and it comes with safety rules that are non-negotiable. This post explains what it is, what it isn't, and who it is for.
Where the idea came from
Founder Skyler Baird was installing his son's booster seat when the idea landed: the same factory anchor points that hold a child seat could hold a locked, disguised safe that nobody would look at twice. The full-size BoostedSafe models took that insight and ran with it, but they are safes that disguise as booster seats. They are not seats, and kids must never sit on them.
The Mini closes the loop. It is a genuine, independently crash-tested backless belt-positioning booster seat first, with a hidden safe compartment engineered into it second.
What the Mini actually is
Two models are available for pre-order:
Mini Elite ($299 pre-order):
fingerprint access, backup key, and USB-C jump port. Ships November 2026.
Mini Basic ($259 pre-order):
manual combination lock and backup key. No electronics. Ships November 2026.
Both attach to the vehicle's factory lower child-restraint anchors (LATCH in the US, ISOFIX internationally), and the connector-release points are protected inside the locked compartment. Exterior dimensions are about 13 by 17 by 6.5 inches, with roughly 10 by 10.5 by 2.5 inches of interior storage.
The safety rules (read these twice)
Because this product puts a safe where a child sits, the rules are absolute:
- The firearm must be UNLOADED whenever a child is using the Mini as a booster. No exceptions.
- Children must never have access to the backup key. Keep it on your person or stored separately.
- Children must never be enrolled for fingerprint access on the Mini Elite.
- Use the seat within the height and weight limits printed on the product label and manual. As a general reference, NHTSA guidance says kids should use a booster until the vehicle seat belt fits properly, often until about 4 ft 9 in tall and between ages 8 and 12.
These are not suggestions. They are the conditions the product is designed around.
What the Mini isn't
It is not a substitute for a full-size vehicle safe. The interior compartment is sized for a handgun and small valuables, not a full range kit. If you need maximum capacity and quick access for daily carry staging, the full-size Elite is the right tool.
It is also not available yet. Both Mini models are pre-orders shipping in November 2026, which puts them in driveways in time for the holidays.
Who the Mini is for
Parents
who drive kids daily and want a single piece of gear that does both jobs: a real booster seat for the school run, and a locked compartment for the firearm during the rest of the day.
Grandparents
who keep a booster in the car for grandkids and want the same locked storage the rest of the family has.
Anyone who read our guide to choosing a car gun safe and thought the disguise concept was smart but needed something their kid could actually sit on. That is this.
Frequently asked questions
Is the BoostedSafe Mini a real booster seat?
Yes. It is an independently crash-tested backless belt-positioning booster seat with a hidden locked compartment. The full-size Elite, Basic, and Golden Gate models only disguise as booster seats and are not seats. The Mini is the only product in the lineup a child may sit on.
Can my child sit on it while my gun is inside?
Only under strict conditions: the firearm must be unloaded, the compartment locked, the backup key out of the child's reach, and the child never enrolled for fingerprint access. When in doubt, remove the firearm entirely before the child sits down.
What fits inside the Mini?
The interior compartment is about 10 by 10.5 by 2.5 inches, sized for a handgun and small valuables like a wallet or keys. It is not a full-size safe.
When will the Mini ship?
Both Mini models are pre-orders shipping in November 2026.
How is the Mini different from the full-size BoostedSafe?
The full-size models (Elite, Basic, Golden Gate) are larger vehicle safes that disguise as booster seats but are not seats. The Mini is a smaller, genuine booster seat with a hidden compartment, designed for parents and grandparents who need both functions.
Does the Mini work in my car?
It attaches to factory lower child-restraint anchors (LATCH/ISOFIX). Check the Will It Fit My Vehicle guide and the product page for your specific year, make, and model.
The bottom line
The Mini is the product the original idea was always pointing at: a real booster seat that happens to contain a locked safe, instead of a safe that happens to look like a booster seat. Pre-orders are open now for November 2026 delivery.
